MTV Show “Jersey Shore” Star “Snooki” Polizzi Arrested on Disorderly Conduct Charges
Tuesday, August 03, 2010
Not surprisingly, one of Jersey Shore’s most “popular” characters—“Snooki”—has been arrested for disorderly conduct charges in Florida. The Seaside Heights police chief made a statement alleging that while at Seaside Heights Beach last Friday, Snooki was acting disorderly on the beach. Accordingly, she was arrested, detained, and then released with a summons to appear. While the details of the facts underlying the arrest are unclear, it is safe to assume that Snooki was behaving in an unruly manner and was likely both loud and drunken in public.
Interestingly enough, in California when a defendant is charged with disorderly conduct, this charge often refers to a sex crime such as soliciting a lewd act, prostitution or loitering in a public space with the intent to commit a lewd act. Clearly, in Florida the law is a bit different as there appears to be no allegation that Snooki engaged in any type of sex crime or lewd act. In California, Snooki likely would have been charged with being drunk in public, or disturbing the peace, and would have faced up to six months and jail, informal probation and some court fees and fines. Fortunately for Snooki under Florida law she does not face any jail time for this type of charge and will only face the possibility of paying steep fines.
